Organization
The GIF (formerly GIA) was established on September 30, 1996, and was operated as a paper-portfolio for three years. 1999-2000 proved to be an extremely successful year for the Graduate Investment Fund ("GIF"). Through the efforts of co-chairmen and the rest of the Fund's executive committee, as well as strong support from the MSB Dean, GIF was able to procure $100,000 from the Alumni Association and $100,000 from the University Endowment. These funds were allocated to MSB to be managed via the student run GIF organization.

The management of the Fund is currently made up of a five-member executive board supported by eleven portfolio managers. Industry and regional heads, which perform the bulk of the analytical research on potential investments, are supported by a group of analysts.

The Fund
The Graduate Investment Fund, (GIF) is a student organization whose three-fold purpose is to:
  • Enhance students' interest in investments and in the basic techniques of wise investing through practical experience
  • Provide an understanding of and a learning opportunity in the field of business economics and management
  • Develop leadership skills and an awareness of the responsibility to participate in public affairs.
GIF aims to provide members with a tangible platform to complement their academic background with real-life exposure to strategic investment decisions within the domestic and international equity markets. Company valuation, risk management, economic and industrial research and portfolio management are just a few of the disciplines that students experience through involvement in GIF.
